Summary |
| Section 1
Thinking about buying? |
Being an ACE consumer – an active,
critical and enquiring consumer Students will make an
imaginary consumer purchase after examining brochures and
consider the factors that influenced their decision. They will
develop an understanding of the process of making an informed
consumer purchasing decision. |
| Section 2
Is this right? |
Consumer and business rights and
responsibilities Students will ask questions about
consumer rights and responsibilities after considering the
scenario of the broken portable CD player. They will examine and
use technical words used in this unit and complete a ‘collect,
sort and question’ exercise about these words. |
| Section 3
What does the law say? |
Using consumer laws
Students are introduced to information from key consumer laws
and apply this information to scenarios they may encounter when
buying goods and services. They determine what guarantees and
rights consumers have in each situation.
|
| Section 4
Know what to look for |
Making sense of consumer
information Students will access and use consumer
information online and/or in print. They will then investigate
packaging, product labelling, accurate weight or measure of
goods and product safety. Students will then develop one of
these areas further by undertaking a group inquiry. |
| Section 5
How do I get this sorted? |
Resolving problems with faulty
goods and services Students will investigate
organisations that can assist them when they have a consumer
problem like faulty goods or being misled by advertising of
goods and services.
Students will consider options available to consumers after
purchasing an item that was found to be faulty.
They will use role-plays to illustrate how to prepare and
undertake face-to-face discussions with a retailer to resolve
the problem. |
| Section 6
Using our purchasing power |
Consumer influence on markets
Students will consider how their actions as consumers can
impact the market (what is bought and sold). They will examine a
purchase they enjoyed and one they were disappointed with and
consider some actions they could take as individuals and as a
group in response.
