Consumer information standards for clothing and footwear
Country of origin labelling
These regulations require clothing and footwear to be permanently labelled with information on their country of origin (where the clothing or footwear was manufactured). This information must be available to a prospective purchaser at the point of sale.
Fibre content labelling
These regulations provide consumers with information on the fibre type and content of clothing and footwear. The regulations apply to goods made from natural or synthetic textiles; however a range of particular goods are excluded.
Australian / New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 2622:1996 Textile products - Fibre content labelling forms the basis for the regulations and sets out the methods for labelling textile products with fibre content information. The regulations set out variations to this standard. This information must be available to a prospective purchaser at the point of sale.

The regulations specifically exclude some goods.
The Australian / New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1957:1998 Textiles - Care labelling forms the basis for the regulations and specifies words, phrases and symbols detailing how the goods should be cared for. This information must be available to a prospective purchaser at the point of sale.
