Consumer information standards for used motor vehicles

These regulations apply when used motor vehicles are being sold by car dealers or through a car market operator. They require that a consumer information notice (CIN) must be displayed so the consumer can determine particular features of the vehicle. The information required on the CIN includes details such as the vehicle’s make, model, year, price and distance the vehicle has travelled.

The trader is required to obtain the consumer’s (purchaser’s) signature on the CIN to confirm that the consumer has seen the notice. The dealer must keep their copy for a minimum of 6 years and make this available to the Registrar on request.
