Switch to cheaper power

Did you know there is a quick and easy way to compare power prices? Nearly everyone is looking to save money and your power bill is a good place to start. Find out if you can save money by simply changing your power supplier or plan by visiting Powerswitch.

Your power usage is likely to rise over winter so it’s a good time to be looking for a cheaper power plan.

Powerswitch is an online calculator that helps you find the cheapest plan for your household. It’s free to use. Just grab your latest power bill and go to Powerswitch or get someone with internet access to help you.

You put in information about how much electricity you use each month and what plan you are currently on. Powerswitch compares the prices from all the providers and plans available in your area. Powerswitch then finds the cheapest plan for you and tells you how much you can save by changing.

Once you have found the cheapest plan for your usage you can click on a link to your preferred power company’s website to ask about changing. In most cases the new company will sort out everything for you.

You can check back with Powerswitch at anytime to make sure you are still on the cheapest plan. A good time to check is when you are moving house so you can find the cheapest plan in your new neighbourhood. If you are expecting an addition to your household you can estimate your new usage and check if you need to change your provider.

Powerswitch also gives you other useful information like how to make a complaint to the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commission, tips for energy saving in your home, and information about pricing plans and customer contracts.

Powerswitch is an independent service brought to you by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Consumer NZ.
