Consumer Alert – Whitcoulls and Borders vouchers
What should I do with my Voucher?
Think of your Whitcoulls and Borders vouchers as a ticket to a half price sale, and the sale may end soon.
The administrator of Whitcoulls and Borders is not obliged to accept gift vouchers, but from their point of view, offering to accept the vouchers if you spend an equal amount in cash is good way to get some revenue coming in.
This offer is also helpful to consumers that have a voucher and want a book and can afford to match the face value of the voucher.
If you wait, there is a small chance the companies will trade their way out of the insolvency and continue trading and you will be able to use your voucher again. However, if the companies are sold then the new owners will be under no obligation to honour the vouchers. Or if the companies are put into liquidation then the voucher holders will be unsecured creditors who are unlikely to get anything.
Ferrier Hodgson is the administrator. There is a very clear explanation of the administration process on the Ferrier Hodgson website.
