Power switching

A word of advice about switching power companies.

31 May 2010

From the goosebumps on my arms I can tell it’s going to be a cold winter. And I’m already dreading the massive power bills from having to keep the house warm and keep my pet chihuahua, Snookie, cosy through the winter months.

So now that it’s officially winter, I’m going to visit Powerswitch to check if I can get cheaper power and save some hard-earned dollars.

Doing the legwork for you

It can be hard to figure out which is the cheapest power company or plan for you, especially since they have different names for different plans and it depends on how much power your household uses.

That’s why Powerswitch is great. It can figure this all out for you. Easy peasy. And it’s free to use. Powerswitch is a web-based calculator that helps you find the best power prices in your area. Just grab your latest power bill and go to Powerswitch. Take a couple of minutes to plug in your usage information and location and Powerswitch will compare the prices from all the providers and plans available in your area.

You’ll then be able to see the cheapest plan available for you and see you how much you could save by switching. Even if it’s a small amount, that’s money you’ll be sure to find a better use for.

It’s also not that hard to change

After generating your results, Powerswitch gives you the option to take you to your preferred supplier’s switching page on their website. Then all you need to do is fill in your details to start the switching process.

So visit Powerswitch to see if you could save money today. Even if you find you’re already on the best plan for you, it’s important to check back with Powerswitch from time to time. Any major changes in pricing would also mean you should check back with Powerswitch to see if you’re still on the best plan for you.

Powerswitch also gives you other useful information like how to make a complaint to the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commission, tips for energy saving in your home, and information about pricing plans and customer contracts.

Powerswitch is an independent service brought to you by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Consumer NZ.
