Privacy Commissioner launches 'Keep Your Information Safe' cards

A recent article higlights the real vulnerability of the elderly to identity theft. An elderly couple in Auckland lost $1800 to scammers recently after having their credit card stolen. The couple were called out of the blue by someone purporting to be from their bank and duped into handing over their pin number. The money was drawn out of their account just moments later.

The Privacy Commissioner, along with Neigbourhood Support and the Office for Senior Citizens, has produced a series of cards with advice on keeping your information safe. Launched recently by the Mayor of Wellington, the cards include quirky cartoons that really help to get the message across and cover subjects such as 'protecting yourself against scams' and 'keeping your information safe online'.

Community organisations the likes of Senior Net and Citizens Advice Bureaux have stocks of the cards available and you can also order them directly online here.
