They got to me through my computer

If a scammer has reached you through your computer.

What should I do?

  • A virus or other harmful software may still be on your system.

  • Run a full system check using reliable virus protection software.
  • If you do not have this software already, install it, along with an internet barrier called a "firewall".
  • Netsafe, The Internet Safety Group provides information about protecting your computer, and you can access their site to find it. Netsafe also provide a Step by Step guide to computer security.

Visit the NetSafe website.

  • Change all your passwords. The scammers may have access to them.
  • Keep your protection software up to date.
  • Don't respond in any way to unsolicited emails.
  • If in doubt, delete.
