Reporting a scam
Are you a New Zealand Resident?
Any New Zealand resident who wishes to can report a potential scam
offer (of the type the Ministry assesses for listing on Scamwatch).
We regret we are unable to accept reports of overseas scams from
consumers living outside New Zealand. We suggest that
overseas consumers notify their local or state consumer protection
agency instead.
What kind of scam is assessed ?
We assess the following types of schemes for Scamwatch.
- prize and lottery schemes
- astrology and other fortune-telling type schemes
- certain versions of the Advanced Fee Fraud ("Nigerian Letter")
We may use your report to keep this site up to date and warn
others.
We regret we are unable to reply to reports for scams already
on Scamwatch.

Don't include supporting documentation
Please do not send any supporting documentation with your form at
this time. If we require any supporting documentation about the scam
you report, the Ministry will contact you for this information after
it has qualified the scam.

What we do with the information
Once we have assessed the reported scam, the Ministry may use
your information to keep this site up-to-date and to warn others.
Your personal details will not be published. The information you provide will
also be added to the Ministry's data
collection on scams.
Responding to your report
Please note that the Ministry is not an enforcement agency and
may not respond to you directly regarding this scam.
